The Program The SLI, which has been tagged "mental bootcamp" by recent participants, consists of three sessions. The primary session is six days long and held in the summer on the beautiful campus of Peace College in downtown Raleigh. Following the summer session are two two-day mini-sessions held in the fall and spring. The summer session consists of numerous workshops, speakers, and group and individual projects. Upon acceptance the students complete the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory and are grouped accordingly, so by the time they arrive at the summer session, they are already established into four groups. Following a morning of workshops and speakers, the groups work tirelessly through the afternoons and evenings to accomplish a task assigned to them at the beginning of the week. Each student is also required to keep a leadership journal and write at least one article for the daily newsletter. The two mini-sessions extend leadership training through additional workshops and smaller projects. A graduation banquet is held at the spring mini-session to celebrate the students' completion of the program. “This Leadership Institute is not for any student. You really must dedicate more than a day’s work. If you’re not willing to listen to other’s suggestions-you’ll never make it here.” - Summer Session Participant |

“This has been the hardest thing I have ever done, but it has also been the most rewarding. I would do it all over again, regardless of the work.” |
